CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

THE NEXT MORNING, WE were up early. Orville took one of our buckets, milked the cow, then took it inside and asked Mrs. Grigsby if she’d mind if he fixed breakfast.

She said, “No not at all.”

He went back to the wagon and brought in all sorts of victuals. “I think it’s almost Thanksgiving. How about hot cakes, oatmeal laced with honey, and hot cocoa? For dinner, smoked ham, green beans, and boiled potatoes.”

“That all sounds heavenly,” she exclaimed. “Don’t that sound heavenly Nolan?” She looked at her husband.
